Show it, learn and decide
A prototype only teaches you something when someone else uses it. Today you show yours to two people, note what they do, and decide what comes next.
What you will leave with
- How to watch someone use your prototype without helping
- A simple ten-minute test
- How to decide: continue, change or stop
- A personal 90-day AI plan
YOU LEAVE WITH · A tested prototype and a plan
Watch, don’t sell
Selling
- Explaining every button first
- Helping as soon as they pause
- Asking “Do you like it?”
Watching
- Giving one task, then staying quiet
- Noting where they hesitate
- Asking “What did you expect to happen?”
What people do tells you more than what they say.
A ten-minute test
- ASKAsk permission. Say it is a pretend version, and you are testing it, not them
- TASKGive one task, such as “Find a shift you could cover”
- WATCHStay quiet. Note where they click, pause or smile
- ASK AFTER“What was confusing? What did you expect to happen?”
- THANKThank them. Keep notes without their name
Two people is enough to learn something real.
Decide what comes next
- CONTINUEPeople got it and want it: keep going, and test with more people
- CHANGEThe problem is real but the screen missed: change it and test again
- STOPNobody needed it, or something else already works: stop, and be glad you found out cheaply
Stopping is a good result. You found out in hours, not months.
Riverside Café (fictional): what two people did
Two volunteers tried the one-screen rota. Both found a gap in seconds. One tapped “I can cover”, then asked, “Does the shift lead know now?”
Decision: change. The screen works, but people need to know their offer reached the shift lead. Next: add a “Seen by shift lead” tick, then test with three more volunteers.
Ask
- What did they do that told us the most?
- Why is “change” more honest than “continue” here?
- Who has not been asked yet?
Live demo: make sense of your notes
Here are my notes from two people trying my prototype. I have removed all names and personal details. My notes: [PASTE YOUR NOTES]. Please separate what they did from what they said. List up to three things that worked and three that confused them. Then suggest whether to continue, change or stop, with one reason, and tell me what I cannot know from only two people.
Check the response
- Names and personal details were removed before pasting
- What they did is kept apart from what they said
- The AI says what two people cannot tell you
- The decision is yours, not the AI’s
Where you could go next
- KEEP PRACTISINGFollow your 90-day plan: one small AI habit a week, with the five safe habits
- MVPAI IN A WEEKFive days online: take one idea along the whole route to a small working product
- MVP FOUNDERS PROGRAMMETwelve weeks: build a product with real users
- OR SIMPLYUse what you learned at work, in your group or at home
There is no wrong next step. Go at your own pace.
Your tutorial: 35 minutes
Work through the Lesson 5 tutorial. Each step is a short prompt, then a “Did you…?” check.
- Show your prototype to two people and note what they did
- Make sense of your notes with the AI, with names removed
- Decide: continue, change or stop, and write one reason
- Draft your personal 90-day AI plan
- Fill in and print your Certificate of Participation, if you like
A tested prototype and a plan
Before you move on
- I have watched two people use my prototype
- I have decided to continue, change or stop, with a reason
- I have a 90-day plan with one small habit a week
- I can still name the five safe habits
WELL DONE · You have taken a problem all the way to a tested prototype
