Exercise 1 · Define your idea: Problem Statement and Product Vision
| Time | 10 minutes, after the M · Map the problem slides |
|---|---|
| Blueprint sections | 1 My idea, 2 Problem statement, 3 Product vision |
| You need | Your AI assistant; the Product Blueprint open in another tab; your idea in a sentence or two |
| You leave with | Problem Statement v1 and Product Vision v1, written in your Blueprint |
| Safety tip | Describe your customers in general terms ("independent tutors"), never as named people or clients |
Where you are
You have heard how good products start from a clear problem, not a clever feature. Now you turn your idea into words other people can understand. "v1" means first version: you will improve both after the workshop, once you have talked to real people.
What you will make
A problem statement: two or three sentences that say who has the problem, when it happens, what goes wrong and what it costs them, with no solution in it. And a product vision: one or two sentences that say who the product is for, what it helps them do, and why that is better than what they do today.
For TutorDesk, the problem statement: "Independent tutors (who), every week when parents ask to book or move lessons (when), juggle messages across text, email and social media and lose track of who is coming (what goes wrong), so they spend hours on admin each week and sometimes miss paid lessons (what it costs)." The vision: "For independent tutors who manage bookings by message, TutorDesk is a simple booking page that lets parents book and move lessons themselves, so tutors spend their time teaching, not chasing."
