Exercise 2 · Test your assumptions: Assumption Register and MVP Validation Plan
| Time | 10 minutes, after the V · Validate the idea slides |
|---|---|
| Blueprint sections | 5 Assumptions, 6 MVP validation (and 4 Customer profile if you have time) |
| You need | Your AI assistant; your Blueprint with sections 1 to 3 filled in |
| You leave with | Your three riskiest assumptions and one experiment, with a metric and a pass mark set in advance |
| Safety tip | The AI can help you plan a test, but it cannot be the test. Only real people can show whether an assumption holds |
Where you are
Your problem statement and vision rest on guesses. Some guesses, if wrong, would sink the whole idea. In this exercise you find the riskiest ones and plan how to test one of them. You will not run the test today: validation happens after the workshop, with real people.
What you will make
An Assumption Register: your three riskiest assumptions, each sorted into one of four kinds.
- Desirability: do people want it?
- Viability: can it pay its way?
- Feasibility: can it be built?
- Usability: can people use it?
And an MVP Validation Plan: one small experiment, the thing you will measure (the metric), and the result that counts as a pass (the threshold), written down before you run it.
For TutorDesk, the riskiest assumption is desirability: "Tutors will let parents book lessons themselves instead of arranging them by message." The experiment: show a simple booking page to ten independent tutors and ask them to share it with their families for two weeks. The metric: how many tutors share it. The threshold, set in advance: at least four of the ten.
